The Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors has published its ‘Internal Audit in Lockdown’ report. This is based on a survey of over two hundred Chief Audit Executives to understand the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on internal audit teams. The research found that almost half (46%) of internal audit teams had been affected by redeployment, and a further 15% had been affected by furloughing. Meaning that a significant number of internal audit professionals have not been carrying out critical internal audit work during the period of lockdown. This raises concerns for corporate governance during the coronavirus crisis, and reveals the extent of disruption to internal audit teams.
