The Institute of Internal Auditors released a new Global Knowledge Brief, “Data Analytics Mandate, Part I: Where do we go from here?” The report is the first of two primers on the topic. Understanding data analytics and its potential benefits are covered in Part I, while Part II will review strategies and tactics for those who are in the early stages of data analytics adoption or who have yet to begin.
The concept of data analytics has become a mandate for internal audit functions. The question isn’t “If?” It isn’t even “When?” The time is now, and the question is “How?” Functions that have not started or have only dabbled in the world of data analytics must take the next step toward implementing a basic data analytics foundation and building on it.
It is a daunting proposition, but even small audit functions can take advantage. Strategic data analytics can further the function’s reach and visibility within the organization, keep it relevant, and help it contribute to the organization’s betterment.
