The CIA Challenge Exam offers an accelerated pathway to the CIA certification for experienced professionals. In 2026, there are three available pathways:

1. Accounting pathway
Eligible for individuals holding:

• CPA
• CA
• A qualification from an approved accounting body (e.g. Suomen tilintarkastajat ry)

2. Information systems pathway
Eligible for individuals holding:

• An active Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA*) designation
  *CISA is a trademark of ISACA

3. Experienced professionals pathway (pilot in 2026)
Eligible for internal audit professionals with:

• A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience

❗Effective 1 June 2026, the information systems CIA Challenge Exam will be updated to align with the new Global Internal Audit Standards™. View the new syllabus.

Why Take the CIA Challenge Exam?

Program timeline

⇒  Application window: Open year round, with the exception of the 2026 pilot for the Experienced Professionals Pathway (April–September).
⇒ Testing Windows: February, June, August or November
Once your application is approved, please note you have 180 days to register, schedule, and sit for the exam.

❗Important Tip❗

The examination is only offered in the testing windows as listed above. The first exam registration is included in the application bundled price. Retake examinations are available for an additional fee. There is  maximum number of eight times candidates may retake the examination within the three-year program window.
